Discussion area frequently asked questions

Here is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about this discussion area.

What are valid topics of discussion for this area?
The Devizes to Westminster canoe race, marathon canoeing, this site (The Paddler's Perspective).

Any other rules?
No obscenities, even starred-out, no anonymous postings (or just first names - please give your full name), no hearsay allegations, no non-falsifiable allegations or smears, no lies or your post will be deleted. Please note that your message will be stamped with the IP address from which you posted; for those posting through proxies the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR header is also included. This allows the computer which originated the message to be identified should it need to be, and acts as a deterrent to nuisance posters. Legitimate users having nothing to worry about here. (There is nothing unusual about this; this information is recorded every time you visit a website anywhere on the Internet).

Can I put HTML tags anywhere in my posts?
Yes; you can use the following layout tags: <B>, <I>, <U>, <BR>, <FONT>, <CENTER>, <HR>, <H1>, <H2>, <H3>, <H4>, <H5>, <H6>, <UL>, <OL>, <LI>, <Q>, <S>, , , <TT>, <PRE>, <SMALL>, <STRIKE>, <BIG>, <BLOCKQUOTE>. Other tags will not appear in the HTML for security reasons.

Why are there greater-than signs and funny codes in the message when I try to post a followu-p?
The codes appear in the message dialog box when you try to follow-up up on a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the message you are replying to. The <I> codes italicise the quote to make it easier for readers to ascertain which parts are from the original message.

Why didn't my post show up?
Your post most likely did not show up because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Please reload the page in your browser (press "Reload" in your browser with "shift" held down on your keyboard) and it should then appear.

What is a "Link/Image URL"?
Because HTML tags for links and images are not allowed in postings, hypertext links and images cannot be inserted into your message. These two options allow you to include a link to another website or include a picture. A URL is an address for the resource, usually something like "http://www.website.co.uk/resource".

Where can I get a discussion area?
The scripts are based on the original work of Matthew Wright, and the original scripts can be found at http://www.worldwidemart.com/scripts/. Modifications and extensions were carried out by David Anderson. Please enquire if you would be interested in your own discussion area.
