Canal Closure in Newbury

Posted by James Treadgold (james.treadgold@oxinst.co.uk) (from 194.200.52.204) on 24 January, 2001 at 07:52

The canal is now closed in Newbury just below the lock. It is not possible to reach the wharf car park by canal from the lock. Mesh fences have been errected across the complete width of the river. The towpath is also diverted.

Please exercise extreem caution if paddling this section of canal.

Paddlers starting in the wharf car park and paddling down towards Reading are not affected.

The Watersides Series is taking place as normal but please look at the website www.watersides.fsnet.co.uk for the latest information on parking, access to the Waterside centre and race finish location.
