Help - what Training program /what boat??

After finishing 10 years of studies I have grown considerably wider and so has my student debt. Unfortualtey I can do little about the debt - except get a real job. However I have been told by a sober paddler friend that the DW would do wonders for the width issue.

So I have taken the plunge and got a partner now all we need is to determine what boat (K2) and how to train. We are both based on the tideway so access to the water is not a problem.We are not greatly experienced paddlers so we assume a more stable boat would be best?

Does anyone have any helpful advice or suggestions?
