One Hundred Thousand Pages

Paddler's Perspective passes small milestone

On 26th April 2000, the paddler's perspective is expected to record the deliver of its 100,000th page in under two years of existence. This happy moment for the webmaster coincides with a most unhappy moment for DW as a whole; the aftermath and postmortem of DW 2000, but is still a minor cause for the webmaster to celebrate...

Visits to the paddler's perspective weren't properly recorded until May 1998 when the site had been running a few months; and a month's worth of records were lost in December 1999, but the 100,000 mark has definitely been reached sometime in the last few days. The growth of the site has been remarkable. The first few pages were designed in a few idle moments of summer 1997, shortly before I entered the senior K2 for the first (and currently, only) time; the intention then was to merely report on that effort (19th, in 22:51:58 - setting a new cross class record in the process).

The most popular day of all time was... yesterday! There have been around 15000 pages delivered in the past week, the week of DW Tuesday to Tuesday.

10.Tue 18th April 2000763 pages

There are around 260 pages on the site; around half of these are contributions from visitors in the discussion area. Over 400 people have taken the time to read about what the Bible teaches and why I believe it.

The most popular page is the front page, with about 13000 views. This is followed by the gallery index page with 5600 views, then 4600 for the results, 3800 for the news, 3000 for the portage diagrams, 2900 for the discussion area, 2650 for the links and a similar number for the rulebook. The most popular photograph in the gallery is one of Caen Hill, Devizes, which isn't even part of the course; presumably this is just because it is almost the first listed photo.

Despite the rather obvious branding as "The Paddler's Perspective" and the fact that over the months I've made in increasingly obvious on the contact page that this site is not the official one, I still get regular e-mails from people asking me to send them entry forms, explain the rules etc!
