The DW starts at Devizes Wharf on the Kennet & Avon canal, before joining the River Thames 54 miles later at Reading, and then the tidal Thames another 54 miles on at Teddington (after which there are no more locks); the race finishes 17 miles later at Westminster bridge by the Houses of Parliament.
