ROMNEY:-

When approaching Romney use the right hand side arch of Eton bridge and stay clear of the weir.  This area is exceedingly dangerous when the river is in flood as the river has a standing wave under the bridge and in such circumstances should be portaged on the right before reaching the bridge.  Paddle down the length of the lock cut and get out on the left before the lock gates.  Portage the left hand side of the lock putting back in below the lock gates.  Additional consideration about excess noise is required as this route takes you past the lock-keeper's home.
